Week 1 blog

What did you learn this week?

This week, I learned a lot of different ways that different people want their classroom set up and all of the different areas that I could make in my future classroom. We drew what we wanted in our future classroom and our ideal setup and it opened my eyes to many new variations and techniques by looking at all of the other groups' work. I also learned about Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and learned how to interpret and apply them in the lab. The NGSS helps students build important skills that will be useful in both their careers and everyday lives

Which parts did you find clear and which were confusing?

At first, talking about NGSS was a bit confusing, and the website was a little overwhelming at first trying to navigate through it. I think that as time goes on, I will understand the concept more and the website but at this time, it was a little overwhelming.

How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?

I will use what I learned in the future by using NGSS Science and Engineering Practices in my future classroom, and it will make learning more engaging for students. Instead of just memorizing, they’ll ask questions, explore ideas, and use data to support their thinking. This helps them become better problem-solvers. As a future elementary teacher, understanding NGSS is key to creating good lessons. We also learned how NGSS connects different science areas and teaches important skills like the Scientific Method and inquiry. I plan to use these methods to help students learn and think critically.

  1. Hi Jenna,
I like how you and your partner set up your future classroom! I like the colors that you added and the 2nd-grade classroom sign. When my partner and I did this, we didn't specify a specific grade, but I think it could have conveyed more information if we had. I also was a bit confused about the NGSS thing originally, but I think if I can go back and look at the presentation that the professor gave a bit slower, I can probably get the hang of it.

    Have a great week 2!

  2. Hello Jenna, I like how you set up your future classroom! You and your partner had a lot of great ideas when it came to creating the perfect classroom. One idea that you mentioned was the comfy corner. I think that is a great idea and me and my partner had a similar idea.
